ATTENTION!!!!

Due to the ability to navigate away from this page to inappropriate web sites for school age children, I have decided to post my pictures and comments about my trip to Japan on my school web page, http://cg042.k12.sd.us/greco_greetings.htm . If you would like to comment or ask questions about my pictures and/or trip, you can use my school email at Carol.Greco@k12.sd.us .

This is a darling little girl dressed in traditional Japanese clothing. She was part of a wedding party that we observed during our visit to a Buddist Temple in Toykyo.

This is a traditional Japanese wedding at a Buddist Temple. They were all so quiet. We saw three weddings during the 20 minutes we were there!
This is the Kabuki Theater in Tokyo.

Day 6 - Kabuki and Tokyo Bay

This is a night picture of the Rainbow Bridge along Tokyo Bay that I took on night cruise with a few of the other teachers. It was a beautiful trip until it started to rain. We still had a relaxing time for 2 hours!
This was a beautiful Kabuki Dancer. She was very graceful and talented!
This is the Tokyo Tower during the daytime.

Day 5 - Fish Market and Buddist Festival

Konichiwa from Japan! These are some of the seafood items for sale at the Fish Market. I don't think I will buy anything! This is octopus also known as calamari. We got up at 4:00 am to get to the market early to see the fish auctions. It was a very exciting time. I can't wait to tell you about it when I get home. I lots of pictures and a video of some of the auctioning.

This is dried octopus for sale at the fish market. Mmmmm, yummy! :)
This is a young festival dancer. They train all year to appear in three festival celebrations each year. There seems to be a number of different groups that participated in this parade. They each had outfits that signified their group. They were very talented.
This darling little girl was enjoying being in the parade. There were so many people in the parade and watching the parade. It lasted over two hours!!

This is a large lantern float at the Buddist Lantern Festival.

Japanese Theater Evil Mask

Our translator told us that the Japanese merchants are starting to display Halloween items. The young people here like to dress up and walk the downtown streets. They seem to see it as a fun time, but don't go trick-or-treating!

Day 4 - Trip Around Tokyo

We visited the Japanese parliment, the Diet, today. There were lots of student field trips going on. They loved to give the peace sign whenever we took a picture. They were very well behaved!
I haven't been to McDonalds yet, but I hope to visit one before we leave!
Ohio (good morning in Japanese)! This is just some of the choices I had for breakfast this morning. They also had American choices like scrambled eggs and bacon. There was also french fries. What a Global Society!

Day 2 or 3?

This is the Tokyo Tower. It is right outside our Hotel, The Tokyo Prince, window. It is a little taller than the Eiffel Tower.

We are eating dinner with a Fulbright Scholar Alumni. She was very interesting. Her name is Naoko Ogawa and lives in Tokyo. We have been up for about 24 hours. We left San Francisco at 12:00 am on Monday, October 15th, and got to Japan 10 hours later. We crossed the International Date Line and it is Tuesday, October 16th.

Day 1 - San Francisco

I arrived in San Francisco today and met the other 200 teachers going to Japan. This is a group picture of the fellow teachers who will be going to Sakai, Fukui in Japan with me. It has already started out to be an amazing trip. All the teachers are so excited to visit Japan!

Trip to Japan 7 Days Away!

I will be leaving for Japan next Sunday, Oct. 14th. I can't believe it is just a week away. I am busy lining up my clothes for packing and writing lesson plans. I wish I knew for sure what the weather will be like while I am there. Snow is predicted in my area tonight! I sure hope that is not what I will find in Japan!

Feeling My Way Around Blogging

I am taking "baby steps" with creating a blog. I am not sure that it is something I will add to very often. I have been successful with uploading pictures which I want to do when I am in Japan. I now need to figure out how to upload videos. I don't think that will be as easy, but I will figure it out!

New Blogger Bloggings

I see my classroom blog as a place to write to my students while I am in Japan in October. I will be able share my trip happenings as they happen! I will also be able to post pictures and videos of people and places that I visit. This will allow me to connect with my students while I am away! I am looking very forward to this entire experience.
